Follow in the footsteps of two of Oxford’s most beloved authors on the C.S. Lewis & J.R.R. Tolkien Walking Tour. Explore the colleges where they lived, taught, and found inspiration—Magdalen College for Lewis and Exeter College for Tolkien (when open). Discover the world of the Inklings, their literary group, and walk the scenic Addison’s Walk, where they shared ideas on midsummer evenings. Visit St. Mary’s University Church, where Lewis preached, and uncover Oxford’s rich religious and literary history. Along the way, see iconic university buildings, charming gardens, and historic pubs they once frequented. This tour blends literary heritage, Oxford University history, and architectural beauty, offering fans a deep and engaging look at the lives behind Narnia and Middle-earth.
Voucher Information: Show your voucher on your smartphone or other device (if you'd rather print a copy - that's fine too!)
Please reach meeting point 15 minutes prior to tour's departure time.
We only enter Exeter colleges, as & when it’s open to the public- which varies seasonally. Magdalen College entry might not be possible on some dates but if you book on such a date, we will instead reserve entry to visit Tolkien's Exeter college.
Children may join this tour but there is no child pricing as this tour is aimed at an adult, intellectual audience to discuss the writing and ideas of Lewis and Tolkien, with a focus on Lewis's religious ideas.
Magdalen & Exeter Colleges are generally always closed to all visitors over Christmas between about December 21 and December 31, reopening again from January 1st.
