Visit the excavation site which was buried under volcanic debris for over 1600 years. Pompeii was a well-developed Roman city which had a huge theatre that held gladiatorial fights, temples of worship, luxurious Roman villas decorated with brightly painted frescoes and marvelous mosaics and highly mechanised waterway systems.
